Polka with Peplum

Guest Blogger Nene: Jacobean Inspirations

Popular during the reign of King James the first of England, the Jacobean style featured oversized stylized flowers and leaves, and an abundance of monochromatic embroidery known as 'blackwork'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackwork

The lovely black dress worn by actress Berenice Marlowe to the London premiere of Skyfall,  with its large twisting stylized leaves, curves and arabesques, reminded me of Jacobean/Tudor embroidery.

Here are a couple of examples of Jacobean embroidery from the book Crewelwork by the Royal School of Needlework. What do you think? Is there a resemblance?

 I personally love Jacobean /Tudor embroidery, and I love this dress, I just think it's gorgeous, and a little bit sexy too!

Fall Trend: Leather Skirts

Not everything on the runway translates into work wear, though I think a black leather skirt can take you from work to night out quite easily. 

I like almost every leather skirt I've come across, but my favorite takes on it are peplum, color, patent and below the knee.
